Biography
Praised by OPERA NEWS for her “sizable and burnished mezzo” and “fluent musicality,” mezzo-soprano Courtney Miller is equally versed in opera as she is in musical theater, art song, and concert. A lover of new music, Miller has created many roles, including Mina Miller Edison in TESLA with SOBE Arts and portrayed characters like Sister Helen in DEAD MAN WALKING and Elizabeth Griffiths in AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY.
The 2019-2020 season brings Miller to Baltimore Concert Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, and various venues in Florida. She spent much of 2018 performing the title role in CARMEN in an English adaptation aboard Azamara Club Cruises. During the 2016-17 season, Miller sang Olga in EUGENE ONEGIN and Mercédès in CARMEN with Florida Grand Opera. During the 2015-16 season, she made her Michigan Opera Theatre debut as Hannah in THE PASSENGER, Madison Opera debut as Meg in LITTLE WOMEN, Odyssey Opera debut as Mrs. Ford in SIR JOHN IN LOVE, and Opera Saratoga debut as Cherubino in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and The Wind in Philip Glass’s opera ballet THE WITCHES OF VENICE. Her roles with Virginia Opera during the 2013-15 seasons included, Meg Page in FALSTAFF, Second Lady in THE MAGIC FLUTE, Mercédès in CARMEN, Dryade in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS while covering the Composer, Page in SALOME, and Flora in LA TRAVIATA.
Miller is an avid recitalist and was praised for "possessing a delicacy and diction very appealing, and the strength to bring it home" (The Chautauquan Daily) singing selections from Canteloube's Chants d’Auvergne with the Chautauqua Symphony. She performed Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the Brevard Sinfonia in 2015.
